Mental health is an issue at any age. Understanding and identifying the symptoms of anxiety and depression is important, particularly when your body is going through hormonal changes, such as puberty, pregnancy, after birth and before, during and after menopause. If you’re experiencing signs of antenatal or postnatal depression, you can talk it through with your midwife, early childhood nurse or GP. And if you have a tendency to feel anxious, isolated or depressed, don’t keep it to yourself. Your doctor can refer you to a specialist or you can contact organisations that specialise in mental health, such as Beyond Blue (Beyond and community health centres in your capital city or regional area for advice and referrals.
