Lorraine wanted a more inviting kitchen and bathroom to accommodate her large extended family.
The owners of this kitchen and bathroom love the results of their renovation!
“OUR HOUSE IS A PROJECT HOME built in 1999. We bought it 10 years ago, after it had been rented out for years. The kitchen was a basic project-home design with a typical layout and laminate benchtops. After selling the old kitchen to another family, we took the room back to the studwork and started from scratch.
We try to use local tradesmen and
Darren from Medowie Kitchen Doctor was very efficient and understood the look I wanted. The old kitchen just had a breakfast bar, but we had an island in our previous house and loved it so we changed the layout from a U-shape to one with an island. The renovation took three weeks and has made the kitchen more open-plan and part of the dining area.
Now we have a family-friendly space with modern appliances – a double oven was a must – with the luxury of Caesarstone benchtops and splashback and more drawer storage. The combined pantry/laundry was also updated to match the new kitchen. We added more bench space, drawers and open shelves, then clad the floor with a timber-look tile.
After the kitchen we renovated the bathroom. It was tired and dated, with a huge corner bath you couldn’t get into safely. We had to redesign it with our builder Craig to make a larger shower and fit a soaking tub. I wanted a light, airy room with a spa feel so both the wall and floor tiles are the same stone design for an overall calming effect that ties in with the feel of the house. Hovius Joinery made the vanity, complete with stone waterfall sides for a bit of luxury. Craig Stuart Building did all the bathroom work in two weeks.”
U-turn A new design and more accessible drawers have made the kitchen better for entertaining.
