Buy boxes to turn into shelves and paint and decorate them as you like. Try lining the back with your favourite wallpaper or wrapping paper. Cut paper to size and use spray adhesive for a smooth finish.

NOTE Be aware, shelves mounted this way will not hold much weight!

Spirit level and pencil Sawtooth hangers

Stud finder

Drill and long screws

WallMate anchors (for plasterboard walls) or masonry plugs (for brick walls)

ONE Using the spirit level, mark out the top edge of where you want your boxes to hang. (You could also join boxes together by fastening the sides together with screws before you do this. An offset pattern works best to strengthen the boxes.)

TWO Screw a sawtooth hanger onto either side of the top edge of each box. Mark how wide apart these are onto your marked line on the wall.

THREE If you find a stud, or if you have masonry walls, screw in the plugs where you have marked the width of each box. Otherwise, use the WallMate anchors.

FOUR Drill a screw into each plug/ anchor, leaving the head exposed. Hang each box from the sawtooth hangers onto each set of screws.
