We knew this house was the ONE FOR US
Kylie and Nick fell in love with their property at first sight and since then they’ve realised its potential as the perfect family home.
“IT WAS MY MUM WHO SPOTTED
this house for us. She was driving past one day and saw the For Sale sign go up and called me immediately. My husband Nick and I went to inspect it and knew it was the one straightaway. It’s located in Wynnum, a family-friendly bayside suburb of Brisbane. We loved that it was so close to the water and it had side access for a caravan, which was something we had been looking for.
The house had undergone a couple of renovations before us but nothing major. It was a really small three-bedroom cottage with a tiny kitchen, but it was on a 607-square-metre block so we had lots of room for an extension.
The existing home was one storey and only 141 square metres, so we extended out the back, adding a new kitchen, dining area, master bedroom with walk-in wardrobe, ensuite and a large back deck. Then downstairs we added another living area, bathroom, bedroom, laundry, craft room and a double garage – so now the house is 366 square metres. A lot of the work was carried out by my husband and father, who built most of the large
structures. Dad has been with us every step of the way, we never would have tackled such a big project without him. He has put in so many hours to help us build our dream home. He just works his magic and suddenly produces exactly what I want – he’s amazing!
Once we were in I set to work on the decorating. I’ve gone for a Hamptons/ coastal theme and even a little bit of farmhouse chic in places.
I also love a neutral wall colour. Our whole home is painted in Dulux ‘Hog Bristle Quarter’ and the doors and trims are Whisper White. I’m so pleased with the way our home has evolved.
On reflection A mirrored splashback makes the kitchen feel more spacious and it means Kylie can see what the kids are up to when she’s cooking.
