BEAUTIFUL SOLID-WOOD sideboards in Alison’s home offset the natural colour of the floors and complement the rest of her furniture. “Chris and I both love timber furniture and the look of the grain and the warmth it brings to a room,” says Ally. “I also don’t think solid timber ever dates; it wears really well and you can sand it back and restain or paint it down the track. We’re not fussy about matching up our timber finishes but we do tend to gravitate towards a lighter more bleached-out look.”

If you’re looking to add timber furniture to your home, here are a few pieces and ideas to get you started.
