Super Stylist Fiona works her magic on a family room in St Ives, Sydney, to give it fresh but classic appeal.

THE FAMILY ROOM of this home in Sydney’s leafy upper north shore is large and has a lovely outlook over the pool and garden but owner Emmy was keen to lighten and freshen the space and give it personality. Her style is not dictated by trends and the family likes to live clutter-free, so Fiona chose a classic and simple look.

The verdict

The existing modular lounge was already in prime position so it stayed put, but the rug was rotated to better suit the shape of the room. Inspiration for decorating came from a large nautical-themed artwork: Fiona added a foldable butler’s tray in coastal white as a side table, introduced task and ambient lighting with the floor lamp and side lamp, also in white, and found an array of cushions in natural and aqua tones. A new round coffee table picks up the timber of the floor and window trim, while potted plants and flower add living green.

A little green Indoor plants and flowers always improve a room.
