IN THE VEGIE PATCH

Homes+ (Australia) - - MY BACKYARD -

WEEK 1

In colder areas, after the October long weekend, you can plant cold-sensitive crops like tomatoes, beans, corn, sunflowers and basil outside.

WEEK 2

For stunning long-living plants with edible “globes”, plant offsets of artichokes. Dig in lime, allow space (they grow 1.5m tall and 1m wide) and water monthly with liquid manure.

WEEK 3

Protect ripening stone fruit from fruit fly, birds and flying foxes by wrapping fruit clusters in exclusion bags.

WEEK 4

Go on a mulberry hunt – you’re sure to find an overhanging branch. If planting, choose “Shahtoot” – the white fruit is sweet, abundant and doesn’t stain!
