During their renovation, Edwina and Lincoln discovered the value of investing lots of time into the planning phase. “If you don’t spend enough time nutting out the details, then the whole building process is more difficult, and potentially more expensive,” says Edwina. “Having a good relationship and great communication with your builder is crucial, especially when things aren’t going perfectly to plan. Don’t let this faze you, it’s important to be a bit flexible. Also, do your homework. Go for a walk in your neighbourhood – if you see a great paint colour or deck stain then knock on the door and ask what it is. Most people are only too happy to chat about what they’ve done and share the knowledge.”
