Potted herbs make lovely gifts for teachers and colleagues. Plant seedlings now into painted tins or terracotta pots for a money-savvy present that will look great by Christmas. Grow micro greens on a windowsill and you’ll have smart garnishes by next month.
If you already have more basil than you know what to do with, blend it up with some olive oil, pour into ice-cube trays and freeze. Once solid, remove and store in ziplock bags in the freezer for up to six months. Add to soups, stews, risotto, roast vegies and salad dressings as required.
