STYLIST HOUSE CALL
Armed with a budget of just $1000, Super Stylist Fiona transforms a double-duty room into a special space.
Our Super Stylist Fiona makes over a guest bedroom just in time for the holidays – all on a budget of $1000.
“The overall feel of the room has changed dramatically. The soft colour palette makes it calm and inviting.”
ANNE TRAN SHARES her large home in Mt Pritchard, NSW, with her partner, younger brother and, when she’s not away working, her younger sister, Julie. With Julie about to return after being overseas for almost two years, Anne decided her room, which is also used as a guestroom, was due for a revamp.
“The existing room did not have a cohesive look,” says Anne. “It had lots of decorative pieces that did not go well with each other style-wise. For example the bedspread and the curtains clashed, and we didn’t really have a proper chair for the desk.
“We wanted an updated look that’s in line with my sister’s style now, but that will also serve as a guestroom when she’s away.”
In keeping with Anne’s desire for a simple, pared-back room, Fiona decided on a soft and feminine Scandi feel with fresh neutral colours.
What a difference soft furnishings can make! With new bedlinen and curtains, the room is instantly lighter and brighter. A couple of new pieces of furniture add to the contemporary look, while thoughtful accessories up the comfort factor for both Julie and overnight guests.
“The space created by Fiona is much more feminine and modern, reflecting my sister’s more matured personality,” says Anne. “It’s really inspired me so I plan to incorporate similar style changes to other rooms in my home.”
