SUMMER VIBES

With warmer weather on the way, it’s time to start giving your place that holiday-at-home feeling, and what better way that with some Caribbean-style homewares? Bring on the tropical feel with cushions printed with palm tree, hibiscus flower and surf motifs. Break this up with a few geometric patterns and solid colours.

Cushions will update a room instantly, but don’t forget about throws! For summer, pick one in a light cotton fabric that works with your colour scheme.

COOL COLOURS

Colour is important when designing any space. When you’re going tropical, watery blues and citrus hues will work just as well as greens. Try to stick to three colours when mixing and matching cushions and add a little bit of white to pull it all together.

If you’re going all out with colour in your soft furnishings, ++++k+eep everything else neutral in order to maintain some visual calm.

NATURAL TOUCHES

To set off your soft furnishings, tie them in with furniture and accessories in natural materials. Cane and rattan encapsulate the Caribbean look perfectly; try these materials in a coffee table, bench seat or armchair. Potted plants, too, will lend a tropical feel to your interior. Stick to plants such as palms or those with large glossy leaves. As for lighting, go natural – a woven pendant light will work a treat over a living room arrangement. And art? You can’t go wrong with a beach or ocean scene.
