ONE Start with a 1.5m length of dressed pine (42mm x 18mm), six narrower lengths of mitre-cut dressed pine (30mm x 11mm) varying in length from 7cm to 75cm and four even narrower lengths of mitre-cut
dressed pine (18mm x 11mm) varying in length from 10cm to 90 cm. You can get this done at the hardware store. Arrange the 10 short pieces of pine in a random order and at varied angles on top of the base piece, roughly going from shortest to longest, leaving a 40cm space at the wide end. Use a drill to screw them onto the base.
TWO Use a paintbrush and paint your tree in the colour of your choice.
THREE Print individual numbers from one to 24, cut out with scissors and
glue onto pieces of card. Use a skewer to make a hole in the top of each card and attach lengths of string.
FOUR Place small gifts or sweet treats into 24 craft paper bags. Fold over the tops, use skewer to make a hole in the top and thread a card to each bag using the attached string.
FIVE Knot or tie the card to the bag so you have a long length of string free at the end of each bag.
SIX Position bags on tree with enough space around each and use tail end of string to loop and loosely tie each bag to the “branches” of the tree.
