A TIMBER ALTERNATIVE

Elizabeth’s mixed hardwood floors look fabulous, but you can create a similar look using wood-effect laminate. Modern high quality laminates look incredibly realistic and are durable, easy to install and now even available in waterproof versions, so also great for kitchens and bathrooms. Kendall Waller, product manager of Quick-Step Australasia, says laminate is tougher, colourfast, more reliable, cost effective and every bit as beautiful as wooden floors. “And it now comes with a water-damage guarantee that real wood cannot offer. Many people are upset when their wood floor changes colour or cracks and fades in direct sunlight. You don’t need to worry about that with laminate,” he says. According to Kendall, you should choose a laminate floor that offers matching profiles or trims for the floor perimeter, and a water-damage guarantee. Finally, look for one that feels as good underfoot as it looks.
