Along with their tight timeframe, Giacinta and Mitch worked to a strict budget. Research and bargaining was key to this. “Giacinta is the hard negotiator (thanks to the Italian in her),” says Mitch. “We try not to pay full price for anything.” They sought three quotes for each contracted job and found contractors willing to get in and get the job done. When shopping for fittings and interiors, they either headed straight to the sales area, or asked sales agents for a better price. “The worst they can say is no! And if we stumble across items in our travels, we’ll do a quick online search to see if we can get it for less.” The couple love to buy artwork when travelling interstate or overseas, but mix it up with pieces from Ikea and small interior shops.

“I put colour and texture on the bed as a base and then select art and bedside options.”
