ANIMAL MAGIC MAKE-IT
We’ve fallen for these playful projects made from simple plastic animals.
Four fun, fast projects using painted plastic figures. So cute!
1 DINO PLANTERS
YOU WILL NEED hand drill; plastic dinosaur figurines; wire snips or craft knife; matte spray-paint; fine paintbrush; metallic paint; planter soil; small plants
ONE Drill several holes in the back of a plastic dinosaur, and then use wire snips or a craft knife to carefully cut the hole to the size you want. Spray dinosaur in desired colour.
TWO Once dry, use paintbrush to apply metallic paint to certain areas, such as head or spikes. Allow to dry.
THREE Fill planter with soil and plant with cacti or succulents.
ZOO ANIMAL HOOKS
YOU WILL NEED hand saw; plastic animal figurines; matte spray-paint; fine paintbrush; metallic paint; timber; superglue; drill; screws
ONE Saw each animal in half. Spray front halves of animals with matte paint. Once dry, use paintbrush to apply metallic paint to certain areas, such as eyes, hooves or horns. Dry.
TWO Cut timber to desired length. Use superglue to attach animal halves at equal intervals. Screw timber into wall at desired height.

ONE Spray animals in desired colour. Once dry, use paintbrush to apply metallic paint to certain areas, such as eyes, hooves or horns.
TWO Use superglue to attach animals to plates.
YOU WILL NEED hand saw; plastic animal figurine; timber; nails; hammer; matte spray-paint; superglue; fine paintbrush; contrasting paint
ONE Saw a medium-large plastic animal in half. Cut
2 x 15cm x 10cm pieces of timber. Cut another
2 x 12cm x 10cm pieces.
TWO Nail together 1 x large and 1 x small piece of timber to form an “L” shape; repeat. Spray animal and wood.
THREE When dry, superglue animal’s midriff and feet to wood. Paint eyes and nose in a contrasting colour.
Bright ideas Use fun shades of blue, green and pink to make accessories for kids’ rooms.
Round ’em up
Alternate tall with small animals, to give your hook rack a cohesive pattern.
WHERE TO BUY Plastic animals and dinosaurs from Toys “R” Us and discount stores. Spray paints, metallic acrylic paints, planter soil and timber from Bunnings. Craft knife from Spotlight. Faux plants from Ikea. Side plates from Kmart.
Head or tails Choose animals with antlers, horns and long tails, to hang rings.
