Four fun, fast projects us­ing painted plas­tic fig­ures. So cute!

1 DINO PLANTERS

YOU WILL NEED hand drill; plas­tic di­nosaur fig­urines; wire snips or craft knife; matte spray-paint; fine paint­brush; metal­lic paint; planter soil; small plants

ONE Drill sev­eral holes in the back of a plas­tic di­nosaur, and then use wire snips or a craft knife to care­fully cut the hole to the size you want. Spray di­nosaur in de­sired colour.

TWO Once dry, use paint­brush to ap­ply metal­lic paint to cer­tain ar­eas, such as head or spikes. Al­low to dry.

THREE Fill planter with soil and plant with cacti or suc­cu­lents.

ZOO AN­I­MAL HOOKS

YOU WILL NEED hand saw; plas­tic an­i­mal fig­urines; matte spray-paint; fine paint­brush; metal­lic paint; tim­ber; su­per­glue; drill; screws

ONE Saw each an­i­mal in half. Spray front halves of an­i­mals with matte paint. Once dry, use paint­brush to ap­ply metal­lic paint to cer­tain ar­eas, such as eyes, hooves or horns. Dry.

TWO Cut tim­ber to de­sired length. Use su­per­glue to at­tach an­i­mal halves at equal in­ter­vals. Screw tim­ber into wall at de­sired height.

TRIN­KET DISHES

YOU WILL NEED matte spray-paint; plas­tic an­i­mal fig­urines; fine paint­brush; metal­lic paint; su­per­glue; side plates or saucers

ONE Spray an­i­mals in de­sired colour. Once dry, use paint­brush to ap­ply metal­lic paint to cer­tain ar­eas, such as eyes, hooves or horns.

TWO Use su­per­glue to at­tach an­i­mals to plates.

DOG BOOK­ENDS

YOU WILL NEED hand saw; plas­tic an­i­mal fig­urine; tim­ber; nails; ham­mer; matte spray-paint; su­per­glue; fine paint­brush; con­trast­ing paint

ONE Saw a medium-large plas­tic an­i­mal in half. Cut

2 x 15cm x 10cm pieces of tim­ber. Cut an­other

2 x 12cm x 10cm pieces.

TWO Nail to­gether 1 x large and 1 x small piece of tim­ber to form an “L” shape; re­peat. Spray an­i­mal and wood.

THREE When dry, su­per­glue an­i­mal’s midriff and feet to wood. Paint eyes and nose in a con­trast­ing colour.

Bright ideas Use fun shades of blue, green and pink to make ac­ces­sories for kids’ rooms.

Round ’em up

Al­ter­nate tall with small an­i­mals, to give your hook rack a co­he­sive pat­tern.

WHERE TO BUY Plas­tic an­i­mals and di­nosaurs from Toys “R” Us and dis­count stores. Spray paints, metal­lic acrylic paints, planter soil and tim­ber from Bun­nings. Craft knife from Spot­light. Faux plants from Ikea. Side plates from Kmart.

Head or tails Choose an­i­mals with antlers, horns and long tails, to hang rings.
