This year experts predict that we will become more and more focused on personalising our homes. In fact it’s probably something that won’t ever go away. Why would it? Putting a personal stamp on our home is central to creating a place we love living in, that makes us feel, well, “at home”. They also argue that in a world that’s moving faster than a Ferrari this personalised space is our sanctuary away from it all.
Thinking on this, I realise the reason I’m so inspired by the reader homes in this issue is because they are brimming with personality. Lizzie, on our cover, barely has a room without art: either inherited, by her or by an artist she loves. Her house is a delightful mix of family heirlooms and modern accessories – a reflection of her past and present. On the other hand, Emily Jade’s home (page 38) says “Hollywood Glam” before you even open the door. Hot pink, black, chandeliers... it’s a wonderful expression of her. Last, but not least, Lucy’s passion project (page 48) is a new build Queenslander with a beautiful retro-modern interior. A clever shopper, Lucy mixes stylish modern furniture with vintage one-offs and replicas. And very aptly her top tip is: “Take your time when decorating – a house becomes a home when it reflects you with items you truly love”.
I hope this issue of homes+ helps you create your own little piece of heaven.
