This two-bed­room apart­ment was well over­due for an up­date. En­ter Cherie Bar­ber... three days and $15,000 later it’s look­ing all brand-new and glam­orous.

THIS TWO-BED­ROOM APART­MENT

has the po­ten­tial to fetch top dol­lar when the home­owner, Penny, even­tu­ally de­cides to sell up and move. Lo­cated in a Syd­ney sub­urb where prop­erty prices have sky­rock­eted in re­cent years, and set well back from the busy road it’s sit­u­ated on, the apart­ment has re­mained vir­tu­ally un­changed since Penny bought it 27 years ago. For the most part, it still looked the same as it did when she walked in the door all those years ago – fair to say it was stuck in a time warp. With a bud­get of just $15,000, my chal­lenge was to rein­vent its drab in­te­rior so it had mass ap­peal.

With this bud­get, the changes had to re­main purely cos­metic, but the trans­for­ma­tion had to be a dra­matic one. Here’s what my team and I pulled off in just three in­ten­sive days.
