The original “off the plan” kitchen has been completely overhauled by Jessica and Osvaldo. Lightening up this much used space was a priority, so a skylight was installed to bring in natural light. Storage in the relatively small area was almost doubled by adding white Ikea wall cabinets and stainless steel shelves, and more room for meal preparation created by elevating the microwave off the bench. White gloss subway tiles from Bunnings were laid in a Herringbone pattern and, as Jessica is not a fan of “all-white” kitchens, finding them sterile, she added a deeper tone to the lower cabinetry with White Knight laminate paint in Taubmans Gravel. Like the overhead pendant lights? They’re bamboo bowls from Ikea that have been spray-painted on the outside in semi-gloss black and hung with Bunnings suspension light kits. The other surprise in the Farfan kitchen is the benchtop – the original bench was updated and brightened by covering it with industrial strength self-adhesive vinyl in a marble design, a product Jess found online for a fraction of the cost of marble. White timber venetians from Spotlight completed the makeover.

Industrial style stools from Kmart, $25 each. KITCHEN Home hub Jess made the pendant lights and created a faux marble benchtop (see box below).

DINING A keeper

“Our large dining table holds many precious memories of family celebrations over the past 14 years,” says Jess.
