STYLING SOFT FURNISHINGS

We love the way Jess contrasts black and white with the softness of faux furs and animal prints to create a stylish look for warmer months.

LAYERED MONOCHROME

A predominately black-and-white colour scheme can add a modern, sleek, urban edge to just about any room. This monochromatic mix works well when it’s repeated in different ways throughout a space. Fabrics, in an assortment of patterns, plains and textures, keep the look strong and fresh. A collection of black-and-white photographs, prints or art, framed in a similar style, will further amp up the theme. Accessories or furniture in complementary wood tones add a touch of warmth while rugs and throws soften the look. Include a stand-out piece – a lamp, artwork, accessory or feature wall – to lift a monochromatic look to interesting new heights.

USING FAUX ANIMAL PRINTS

The trend for faux animal skin is as strong as ever. It adds texture, warmth, a sense of fun and a touch of luxury and works equally well in a living area, bedroom or family room. Classic furniture takes on a more relaxed, modern feel when teamed with a faux fur throw or cushion.

It’s easy to get carried away but faux animal skin looks best when used sparingly – too many pieces and the impact is lost. If you’re looking for a faux cowhide or animal print rug, choose one that will complement your space in both size and colour. It should be big enough to make a statement in the room – too small and it may get lost.

MULTI-TEXTURED BEDDING

Layers of sumptuous fabrics add softness, comfort and cosiness to the bedroom. Work out a colour palette you love and go from there. Start with crisp cotton sheets in the highest thread count you can afford, add a beautiful blanket, bedspread or quilt and then layer on pillows and cushions. Look for textured fabrics such as knits, velvet, embroidery, sequins – whatever takes your fancy. Finish off with a throw in a feel-good material such as a chunky knit, mohair, velour or faux fur.

Light relief Texture in the throw, rug and pendant soften this mix of mono.
