A reader shares clever storage solutions.

How good does the entrance to Steph’s home look? Colour and texture, teamed with practical storage solutions, create a welcoming space that works for the whole family.

1 A line of coat hooks provides a readily accessible spot to hang schoolbags, handbags, jackets, caps, scarves, ties and other grab-andgo family essentials.

2 Unexpected pieces keep things organised in this stylish space. A small cupboard houses wifi, phone and internet equipment all in one place – and out of sight.

3 A bench works as seating and storage. Here, it’s used as a perch for tying shoelaces and, says Steph, for keeping “things I have to remember to take somewhere.”

4 Chic baskets turn underbench space into useful storage. These baskets hold newspapers (for the family’s pizza oven) and re-usable shopping bags.

5 An adjoining study was knocked through to make this room larger. Tiled floors, panelled walls and rustic furniture keep the space inviting, informal and family friendly.

“The hooks are for the myriad things that might otherwise end up on the floor,” says Steph.
