During this reno Barry was faced with an unexpected challenge: an old chimney and fireplace, which had to stay in situ. It was located in the new dining zone so he turned it into a storage and display nook. For stability, he installed a lintel, then framed the space and clad it in plasterboard. A piece of old oregon salvaged from the demolition was sanded back and coated in tung oil, then used for the shelving. Result: an attractive feature with a touch of history!
