Katie continues the green theme in her outdoor spaces, including pots and planters among the furniture on the verandahs. She has also amassed an impressive collection of succulents. “Succulents are hardy, which is great for Queensland summers,” she says. “I think I have about 30 different varieties, and around 100 pots.” When starting out, Katie chose both real and artificial varieties, but says as her green thumb improved, she phased out the faux plants. To create a collection as stylish as Katie’s, she suggests buying more than one of the same pot. “To keep your collection cohesive, buy multiples. They don’t necessarily have to all be the same, but multiples make things looks deliberate, rather than thrown together.”

Into the pot Katie says terracotta is affordable and the perfect material for succulents.
