It can be costly to decorate a new home from scratch, and as Alicia and Ian were on a tight budget, they had to get creative. Alicia spent time in clearance stores and tip charity stores, and searching on eBay and on Gumtree for pre-loved items. She would regularly visit the stores, buy when sales were on, and also take advantage of free offcuts, such as wooden pallets from Bunnings. For her birthday and Christmas she asked for gift vouchers so she could purchase decorating items and she also spent a lot of time repairing broken furniture to make it seem new again. Her motto? “Don’t be afraid to build, paint and recycle anything you can!”

Junk reborn Alicia created her large sewing table from discards. Read how on page 37.
