Over the years Lucy has developed a great knack for mixing high-end items with more affordable buys. “Places like Kmart and Ikea are fabulous for adding a bit of instant ‘new-season’ style without doing any damage to the budget,” she says. “The girls’ playroom has been great fun to put together and is a good example of using colour and working to a budget.” The gallery wall cost Lucy next to nothing. The Target and Ikea frames showcase the girls’ art as well as Lucy’s work and some colourful prints she has collected. A neutral-coloured sofa and a bright rug, also from

Ikea, make a fun and comfortable space for the girls to hang out. “Whether I’m styling my bedroom or the girls’ playroom my approach is always the same: start with a simple and stylish base and then add some pattern, some colour and some texture.” Lucy believes these three elements bring personality to any space, but first and foremost the design must be completely functional and practical, especially with kids in the house!
