Cut wood into 3 pieces 50cm long and 2 pieces 40cm long.

Paint wood with 2 coats of white paint, allowing to dry between coats. Place the 50cm pieces next to each other. Nail the 40cm pieces across at either end to brace.

On front, sketch design with a pencil. Mark where the fairy lights will go.

Drill holes for the fairy lights.

Paint over your pencilled design. Dry. Poke fairy lights through holes. Use electrical tape to secure in place. Attach hangers to back.

Fairy lights with red bulbs accentuate the red holly design.

For a more rustic look, skip painting the wood white or perhaps treat with a wood stain.

A Christmas tree design would also look really cute – with fairy light bulbs throughout the tree!
