Grey balances out pastels perfectly. You can see it in the spaces pictured here. In the room above, the pale grey in the wallpaper is used as a neutral, along with white and timber. The grey adds character to the pinks, greens and touches of pale blue and prevents them from being saccharin. White walls with grey decals and a black framed bed (left) balance out the softer textured throws and cushions in pretty pinks and lilacs. Pastels are also picked up in the art frames and accessories. A large pink trunk is a standout feature in the otherwise neutral living room (top left), while the orange trim and metal hardware add detail to the swathe of pretty pink.
