9 The back­ground is feel­ing slightly flat, and the colours of more dis­tant ar­eas should be­come cooler and less sat­u­rated. I con­sider this to be my most im­por­tant step be­cause I want to make my space feel be­liev­able. There are no such things as muddy colours, only muddy re­la­tion­ships. Group some colours to­gether into a cooler zone and they’ll feel sec­ondary and be con­sid­ered back­ground. In­stantly, the mid­dle area be­comes a colour space.
