Just like the ab­stract shapes and phys­i­cal traits of your char­ac­ters, their equip­ment de­fines them. Make sure you in­fuse per­son­al­ity into the inan­i­mate parts of your de­signs. Equip­ment should re­flect the cul­ture and level of tech­nol­ogy of the owner, as well as show the hard­ships or priv­i­lege of their up­bring­ing. The dif­fer­ent cul­tures of the world are an end­less source of in­spi­ra­tion; use them to build a men­tal li­brary you can draw from. If a char­ac­ter is to be an­i­mated, it’s im­por­tant to be mind­ful of how the equip­ment will be used and how things will move around.
