9 Give each area its own flavour

We wanted the play­ers to know which sec­tion of the map they were in with­out look­ing at the min­imap. To do this, we gave a unique colour scheme and/or weather treat­ment to each quad­rant. This way, a player can see where they are with­out con­fu­sion. It also gave us an op­por­tu­nity to make the en­vi­ron­ment feel more vast. Even though Sum­moner’s rift is a sin­gle map, we put about as much time into de­vel­op­ing it as we would for a con­ti­nent in World of War­craft.
