“The Zhu Jiang or Pearl River is a large river system in China, so named because of the pearl-coloured shells that lie at the bottom of the river section that flows through the city of Guangzhou. It’s China’s third longest river and its estuary is regularly dredged to keep it open to ocean vessels. Sadly, it’s also one of the most polluted waterways in the world.”
