2 The un­der­paint­ing stage

The un­der­paint­ing process is a com­pli­cated task. It may look easy when you watch it be­ing done, but it re­lies on the in­tu­ition of the artist to pick out a few colours from the pal­ette. The skin colour from the un­der­paint­ing doesn’t have to look ex­actly like the fin­ished piece – I can tweak it later. I use dark val­ues to block in the shad­ows.
