Sketch my ideas and compositions

ImagineFX: Sci-fi & Fantasy Art magazine - - Workshops -

I start out by doodling the various concepts and compositions I have in mind. These are all very rough and ugly, but they are only meant to get my ideas down on the canvas. I can already tell which ones I like and which ones I don’t, but I try not to judge them at this point and focus on keeping the ideas flowing. Once I feel that I have enough sketches, I pick my four favourites to take further. July 2016

Add colour to the sketches

Normally, I’d only focus on the values at this stage. However, since the one requirement is for the painting to be colourful, these sketches need to reflect that. All of them have a similar colour scheme of blues and pinks, because that’s what I really feel like painting at the moment. I want to make sure that each one of these is something I would enjoy painting, because I don’t know which one the client will choose.
