Judge Dredd First ap­peared: 1977

In post-apoc­a­lyp­tic Mega- City One, they don’t have time for po­lice, courts, lawyers and all that. De­spite the odd moral dilemma, Judge Dredd main­tains law and or­der as judge, jury and ex­e­cu­tioner.

Rogue Trooper First ap­peared: 1981

A ge­net­i­cally en­gi­neered su­per sol­dier, Rogue is only happy in the mid­dle of a fu­tur­is­tic war, be­ing splashed by strong acid un­der a chem­i­cal cloud while blast­ing his en­e­mies with bul­lets.

Stron­tium Dog First ap­peared: 1978

Johnny Al­pha is a mu­tant and a bounty hunter, part of a com­mu­nity shunned by the ‘norms’ in a mil­i­taris­tic and hyp­o­crit­i­cal fu­ture Bri­tain. He’s of­ten joined by his com­pan­ion Wulf Stern­ham­mer.

Judge An­der­son First ap­peared: 1980

De­vel­oped as a fe­male sup­port char­ac­ter for Judge Dredd, An­der­son even­tu­ally got her own se­ries. She’s a Psi-Judge with tele­pathic pow­ers, and her look, by artist Brian Bol­land, was based on Debbie Harry.

ABC War­riors First ap­peared: 1979

This troop of ro­botic war­riors is led by Ham­mer­stein, who came from the Ro-Busters strip. They’re de­signed to with­stand atomic weapons, and mis­sions have in­cluded the tam­ing of Mars.

Sláine First ap­peared: 1983

In­spired by Celtic mythol­ogy, Sláine has an axe called Brain­biter and the power to ‘warp spasm’. In other words, he en­ters a body­con­tort­ing state of frenzy when he’s in bat­tle.

Niko­lai Dante First ap­peared: 1997

In the 27th cen­tury, Niko­lai Dante is the il­le­git­i­mate son of a Ro­manov and causes out­rage in fu­ture Im­pe­rial Rus­sia with his dar­ing feats of piracy, swords­man­ship, killing and car­nage.
