A con­cept artist is a vis­ual de­signer. We’ve done our real-world re­search but are de­sign­ing a fan­tasy world – so how do we bridge the two? Too fan­tas­ti­cal or ab­stract and your de­signs will only con­fuse play­ers, but too re­al­is­tic and it’s not what you ex­pect in a fun, fan­tasy game. It’s up to you to de­cide where to draw this line on each project. I make sure there are enough sup­ports and big struc­tures in this huge but in­ac­ces­si­ble area, which in turn lets the near-float­ing spawn plat­forms shown be­fore stand out as spe­cial.
