10 Shadow and light

ImagineFX - - Workshops -

The other benefit of having the various elements of the piece flatted in on separate layers is that I have greater control when creating the shadow and light layers. I can select any part I like when painting in the shadow. For this piece, I use a cool colour and set the layer’s Blending mode to Multiply. I build up several layers of sharp shadows and gradients to add form and depth. To contrast the cool shadows, I use a gradient glow of warm golden light. The Opacity is adjusted and the Blending mode for the layer is set to Soft Light.
