12 Weathering using masking techniques

Another good trick to introduce details quickly is to use the Masking tool. Among other features, you can mask by Cavity, Smoothness (my favourite), and Peaks and Valleys, and achieve interesting results. After trying a preset I hit the Mask by… button. ZBrush automatically determines masking areas by following an object’s topology. I then use a Standard brush to push topology in and out, until I’m happy with the results.
