Pioneer Electronics has announced a new range of reasonably-priced high sensitivity/SPL speaker components in the Pro series.

The new drivers have been designed for very high SPLs while being of rugged construction to withstand temperature extremes in both the high power voice coils and the inclement car environment.

“These speaker components are extremely popular in countries like Brazil, Venezuela and Colombia where high SPLs are required for the street parties and similar events that tend to happen there. However they are now becoming popular throughout the world.

“The PRO components provide high SPLs, clean powerful sound at a very affordable price” explained Daniele Mariani Product Marketing Manager Pioneer Electronics Australia.

The new range features a choice of drivers for any situation or speaker configuration. First off is a choice of two ‘Bullet’ tweeters the 3.5-inch TS-B350PRO ($89/pair) and the 4-inch TS-B400PRO ($99 each). The TS-B350PRO features a titanium diaphragm and offers very high sensitivity at 100dB while it’s capable of 100 watts continuous and 250 watts maximum power. Its larger sister also bears the titanium driver diaphragm, albeit slightly larger at 4-inches, while copping 200 watts continuous and 500 watts maximum and with a staggering 106dB sesnsitivity. Both tweeters have been designed for long projection ‘throw’.

There is also a choice of two for the mid/mid-bass duties by way of the 6.5-inch TS-M650PRO ($229/pair) and the 8-inch TS-M800PRO ($269/pair). Both drivers feature large and powerful magnet systems, blended pulp cone material and corrugated surrounds. The TS-M650PRO is 94dB efficient with a 4-ohms impedance and it’s capable of handling 110 watts nominal and 500 watts maximum. Its frequency response spans from 50Hz to 18kHz. The larger 8-inch TS-M800PRO can take 180 watts nominal and 700 watts maximum power. It’s also a 4-ohms impedance driver with a sensitivity of 96dB and a frequency response between 40Hz and 15kHz.

Rounding out the full range driver array of the PRO series is the TS-6900PRO ($289/pair), a 4-ohms 6x9 coaxial driver with a 100 watts nominal and 600 watts maximum power rating. The sensitivity is 92dB and its frequency response spans the range between 29Hz and 4kHz.

Finally, the PRO series includes the dual 4-ohms TS-W1200PRO 12-inch subwoofer ($299 each) which won’t require a massive amp to drive it, seeing its sensitivity is a whopping 105dB. It’s no slouch in the power game either with a nominal rating of 450 watts and a maximum of 1500 watts. The light pulp and corrugated surround should provide fast and punchy bass that is rated at spanning from 20Hz to 500Hz.

At a recent launch we had a brief listen to these new components and found the sound clean and powerful from a surprising distance away, confirming these products’ long throw and high power credentials.

Stay tuned for an InCar review soon.
