ASIA-PA­CIFIC CEN­TRE FOR FRAN­CHIS­ING EX­CEL­LENCE

A pre-en­try fran­chise ed­u­ca­tion pro­gram is avail­able for free and on­line through this cen­tre. Funded by the ACCC this course at­tempts to help fran­chisees un­der­stand the process of due dili­gence and have re­al­is­tic ex­pec­ta­tions of what it means to be a fran­chisee.

The Cen­tre was launched by Grif­fith Univer­sity in 2008 and un­der­takes re­search on fran­chis­ing best prac­tice. This re­search helps in­form pol­icy and team mem­bers reg­u­larly en­gage with gov­ern­ment bod­ies and fran­chise as­so­ci­a­tions across the Asia-Pa­cific.

AUS­TRALIAN COM­PE­TI­TION AND CON­SUMER COM­MIS­SION (ACCC)

The ACCC is an in­de­pen­dent Com­mon­wealth statu­tory au­thor­ity which reg­u­lates the manda­tory Fran­chis­ing Code of Con­duct (Code) and can in­ves­ti­gate al­leged breaches of the Code.

The ACCC is re­spon­si­ble for en­forc­ing the Com­pe­ti­tion and Con­sumer Act 2010 as well as leg­is­la­tion, pro­mot­ing com­pe­ti­tion, fair trad­ing and reg­u­lat­ing na­tional in­fra­struc­ture.

Its role is to pro­tect, strengthen and im­prove the way com­pe­ti­tion works in Aus­tralian mar­kets and in­dus­tries.

This web­site is an on­line gov­ern­ment re­source for the Aus­tralian busi­ness com­mu­nity which gives the pub­lic ac­cess to gov­ern­ment in­for­ma­tion, forms and ser­vices for all things busi­ness. It is aimed at as­sist­ing in­di­vid­u­als or a group of peo­ple to plan, start and grow their busi­ness.

New busi­ness own­ers can ac­cess the ad­vice finder, events cal­en­dar, grants and as­sis­tance finder, a di­rec­tory of gov­ern­ment and busi­ness as­so­ci­a­tions, plan­ning tem­plates, busi­ness videos, and busi­ness check­lists.

FRAN­CHISE COUN­CIL OF AUS­TRALIA

The FCA is the main body for rep­re­sent­ing fran­chisees, fran­chisors and ser­vice providers in the $146bn fran­chis­ing sec­tor in Aus­tralia.

Be­com­ing a mem­ber of the FCA is a vol­un­tary and is avail­able for any or­gan­i­sa­tion or any­one in­volved in the fran­chise in­dus­try in­clud­ing fran­chisees.

FRANDATA

FRANdata is the home of the Aus­tralian Fran­chise Registry which iden­ti­fies fran­chise brands that have up-to-date fran­chise agree­ments and dis­clo­sure doc­u­ments, and which have con­firmed with the Registry their com­pli­ance with the Fran­chis­ing Code of Con­duct.

FRANdata also pro­vides re­ports on the fran­chis­ing sec­tor.

Well es­tab­lished in the US since 1989, the busi­ness was es­tab­lished in Aus­tralia in 2013 to help the fran­chise sec­tor ad­dress key strate­gic chal­lenges and take ad­van­tage of op­por­tu­ni­ties avail­able to qual­i­fy­ing brands.

THE FAIR WORK COM­MIS­SION

Fair Work Com­mis­sion (the Com­mis­sion, pre­vi­ously called Fair Work Aus­tralia) and the Fair Work Om­buds­man (FWO) are in­de­pen­dent gov­ern­ment or­gan­i­sa­tions that reg­u­late Aus­tralia’s work­place re­la­tions sys­tem but have dif­fer­ent roles.

The Com­mis­sion is the in­de­pen­dent na­tional work­place re­la­tions tri­bunal. It is re­spon­si­ble for main­tain­ing a safety net of min­i­mum wages and em­ploy­ment con­di­tions, as well as a range of other work­place func­tions and reg­u­la­tion.

The FWO en­forces com­pli­ance with the Fair Work Act, re­lated leg­is­la­tion, awards and reg­is­tered agree­ments. It also helps em­ploy­ers and em­ploy­ees by pro­vid­ing ad­vice and ed­u­ca­tion on pay rates and work­place con­di­tions.

This is the on­line arm of the In­side Fran­chise Busi­ness pub­li­ca­tion. Both plat­forms are fo­cused on pro­vid­ing es­sen­tial ad­vice and in­for­ma­tion for any­one look­ing to in­vest in a fran­chise. The web­site pro­vides short and snappy busi­ness tips and news, video in­ter­views, in­dus­try com­men­tary and mar­ket re­ports.

Fran­chiseBusi­ness.com.au is also the of­fi­cial di­rec­tory of the FCA and lists fran­chis­ing op­por­tu­ni­ties avail­able in Aus­tralia and New Zealand. Po­ten­tial fran­chisees look­ing to move into the fran­chis­ing sphere can ex­plore op­por­tu­ni­ties that cur­rently ex­ist in the mar­ket and en­quire about the fran­chisor or brand.

Users also have ac­cess to fran­chise con­sul­tants and ad­vi­sors who can as­sist prospec­tive or ex­ist­ing fran­chisees and fran­chisors with le­gal, fi­nan­cial ed­u­ca­tional and train­ing, IT and other ser­vices.
