Higginbottom a class above
YOUNGSTER Jake Higginbottom has blown away his opposition in winning the Jack Newton Junior Golf Subaru State Age Championships by a staggering 19shot margin.
Playing three of Sydney’s most challenging courses over four days in cold and blustery conditions, Higginbottom shot rounds of 68 at the Lakes, 71 at Terrey Hills and 7870 at the Australian in registering a 1-under par tournament total.
Joint runners-up Roland Krelle and Mac Marr returned 72-hole scores of 18-over par, which if leaving Higginbottom out of the equation, were strong performances in the extremely demanding conditions.
The victory was a continuation of some outstanding form from the 17-year-old Higginbottom, who in recent months has also won the Queensland Amateur title and the Keperra Bowl in Brisbane, which doubles as a National Selection event. He also won the NSW Amateur in 2010 as a 16-year-old.
Talented 16-year-old Lakes member Cathleen Santoso collected the main prize in the girls section, winning by two shots from Chantal Hodson and Tahnia Ravnjak.
