Todd, Park tops at The Dunes
VICTORIAN Todd Sinnott has captured The Dunes Medal, outlasting Victoria’s Geoff Drakeford and NSW’S Dimitrios Papadatos in an exciting contest on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.
Leading by four shots going into the final round, Sinnott played steady on the difficult Dunes layout, firing a final round 72 (281 total) which was enough to hold off Drakeford (283) and a surging Papadatos, who carded a final round of 69 to finish at 284.
For the Women, it was Lee Park who took top honours over Ashley Ona (QLD) and Min Jee Lee (WA). Park’s four-round total of 296 was two shots clear of Ona (298) and a further two ahead of Lee (300) who’s final round 75 saw her drop from the top spot.
The Dunes Medal has become a “must play” event on the Australian amateur calendar. Jason Day, Marcus Fraser and Brett Rumford are just a few of the young superstars of Australian Golf that have competed in this prestigious event, with the course record of 9-under 63 being set by Bryden Macpherson in the 2008 Dunes Medal.
