Be honest: with the US Open (Aug 30-Sep 12) upon us, we thought we’d be talking about Novak Djokovic’s potential Grand Slam bid, didn’t we? But Sam Querrey put paid to that in the third round at Wimbledon, which kind-of reaffirmed how hard it is to win as oen as Djokovic does. Count on the Serb to be extra motivated at Flushing Meadows, and it will be interesting to see if Andy Murray gets a li from his second All England win (or doesn’t). The one you’d expect to crush it through year’s end is Serena Williams, back to her imperious best at Wimbledon, and don’t we all want to see another match between her and Garbine Muguruza. One extra thing to motivate all involved: first-place prize money at tennis’ richest event has increased again to US$3.5m.
