Eddie Betts

(ADELAIDE)

Inside Sport - - FOOTY FINALS -

Supplied by a midfield better than most anticipated post-Dangerfield, in the front 50, the amazing Eddie is everything; everywhere. He’s king and jester. He’ll kick goal of the year every week, then celebrate like a star. Betts only has eyes for the sticks, and he’ll get it there no matter what ferocity comes his way. He’ll wrap it around the posts while he’s virtually standing behind them. He’ll caress it through in the wildest chaos.

What can we expect from him?

How do you want it? Left flank, right flank, check-side, torp; over, under, sideways, down, Betts does it all. A scrambling, crazy mark? A high-speed scoop? He’ll get it any way he knows how – and he knows plenty.

Eddie is a spoiler, entertainer, mercurial momentum-breaker; a pirate of the pocket, a corsair of the goal-square. Destructive goals are his thing. He’ll most likely do it hugging the line. He loves the brinkmanship of the boundary, and wins way too often for it to be a fluke. Enjoy Eddie, and revel with him – because when he celebrates, dancing and chest thumping in front of his people, it says, “Can you believe me? Because I can’t,” or it says, “I’m Eddie! Never doubt me again!”
