Marcus Bontempelli

Inside Sport - - FOOTY FINALS -

There’s something about The Bont: the way he stamps himself on a game; stands taller when things get tight; takes accountability. In a team that plays a glamorous brand, he involves himself to the hilt. In a team that penetrates lines better than most, he’s a big reason why.

What can we expect from him?

He’ll stand up. Expect high involvement and suave clearance to an increasingly effective forward line. The tall midfielder will take a game by the scruff of the neck in many ways. A great overhead mark, he also has sublime ground skills and high intelligence. Around the contest, he’s a clean possession winner and resourceful disposer. Outside, he’s a breathtakingly elegant left-footer. His raking boot will penetrate deep. When the crunch is on, he’ll pluck a few out of the air in the forward 50 and goal.

His string-bean body still has maturing to do, but he doesn’t mind busting through if there’s a goal at the other end. In the rough, he’s smooth.
