THE BIG MARN’S BARBEQUE COOKBOOK

Inside Sport - - ONE ON ONE WITH... - BY DARRYL BROHMAN, NEWHOLLAND,$35

No offence to the Big Marn, but if we’re going to buy a barbeque cookbook and actually use the recipes out of it, we want it to be written by this bloke – a man who looks like he knows his way in, around and through a friggin barbeque. For the uninitiated, Darryl is a popular member of the rugby league Footy Show team. Apart from being funny, he actually played rugby league back in the 1970s and ’80s for the Doggies and Panthers. But as we were about to say, there are too many barbeque cookbooks published these days by skinny, hipster-bearded health-food professional types. The Big Marn’s attempt is fresh, funny (there’s footy stories throughout) and his recipe departments have cool and clever footy-inspired names: there’s the Immortals section, The Scrum Feed and On The Wings. They’re all self-explanatory. While we think of it, the only other bloke we’d buy a cookbook from is Pawnee Director of parks and recreation Ron Swanson. He once threw a trayload of gourmet veggie burgers straight into the trash so that he nor anyone digest them.

GOODFOR: People who love their meat.
