THE KEY MOMENTS THAT HAVE MADE THE ESSEN DON FOOTBALL CLUB BY DAN EDDY, S LATTER Y MEDIA ,.²
With a finals appearance this season, the supporters of Essendon can just about put the club’s unhappy recent period in the past. But they shouldn’t ignore history altogether – the Bombers can point to a proud heritage, and some of it even predates Kevin Sheedy as coach (that might seem like a long time ago, but it’s true). Dan Eddy, an Inside Sport contributor, football historian and dyed-in-the-wool red-and-black devotee, reaches back to Essendon’s origins, from Dick Reynolds to John Coleman, various Danihers and Watsons, to James Hird and the baby Bombers. Worthwhile for some of the images alone – there’s a gem of Simon Madden celebrating post-match, with a Coke, a cigarette and an arm around Liberal leader Andrew Peacock.
