Rush To Russia

Inside Sport - - PUB DEBATE -

Qualifying for the FIFA World Cup via the playoff has been characterised as a trip into the unknown – such a grey area that we were unsure at time of writing if the Socceroos would still be in with a chance at Russia 2018 a er failing for the first time to advance out of Asia. If Ange Postecoglou’s team has negotiated the first stage against Syria, the Socceroos would face a game somewhere in North America – the United States, Honduras, Panama, take your pick – and the return leg at home in the inter-confederation

play-off (Nov 7 and 14). For Aussie fans, the possibilities are reviving bad memories of Iran in 1998 and Uruguay and 2001. But then again, isn’t this all exciting?
