Isis man on drug charges
A 50-YEAR-OLD Isis Central man faced the Childers Magistrates Court on Friday and was convicted and fined $2500 for producing and possessing dangerous drugs.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Hayley Glover told the court when police attended Thomas Leslie Smith’s home on February 3, they found six cannabis plants in pots and one gram of dried marijuana, as well as a water pipe used for smoking the drug.
Smith told police he had grown the plants from seeds and had watered them daily for personal use.
His defence argued Smith used marijuana as pain relief after a workplace injury left him with a broken back 30 years ago.
Smith was fined a further $350 for possessing a marijuana pipe.
Magistrate John Smith warned Smith if he was caught for drug-related offences again, prison was “highly likely”.
