The end of a dream

Isis Town and Country - - Opinion - By NANCE BURNETT

RAIN– oh how you persistently drum

Rooftops, lawns and pavements drear.

Gutters run to the traffic hum;

Eyes, look upwards: the sky is here.

Ankle deep the bare childish feet

Splash and play to the clouds’ refrain.

School and home are forgot in this street

Magic world of the thunder and rain.

Ocean liners cruise swiftly down

Boiling swells on turbulent stream,

Bravely riding this gutter clown.

Crash! A shipwreck! The end of a dream.
