Warning on phone scam

Isis Town and Country - - News -

AN Isis Central woman is warning residents of a potential phone scam circulating around the district.

Barbara Wilson said she received a suspicious call from a woman claiming to be from Suncorp, seeking to update her insurance details and information in their system.

Mrs Wilson said while she initially thought the phone call was legitimate, she soon realised it was a scam.

“I sort of listened for a minute and thought, hang on, they send that out by letter … I knew it didn’t sound right,” she said.

As soon as Mrs Wilson asked the woman for her name and details, the caller hung up.

“We rang Suncorp the next day and they confirmed that they definitely don’t do it like that,” she said.

Mrs Wilson said she was lucky she didn’t give out any personal details to the caller, but felt it was important to warn others about the call.

“It’s just a scam,” she said.

“People should be alert and just hang up. Don’t give out any personal information whatsoever.”
