Happy Easter everyone

Isis Town and Country - - OPINION -

I HAVE been very busy here in New Jersey since Christmas. For starters I have been doing some college courses – one on digital photography and one about Niagara Falls. The digital photography one is awesome. I have been learning how to take different styles of photos and get different effects. I am really enjoying it. The Niagara Falls one went for three weekends and I learnt a lot about the history of the area. We are going on a trip to the falls in June to finish off the course. I can’t wait. The weather through winter was very cold. For about two months we didn’t get over zero degrees. Most of the time it was between –5C and –15C, although when the Arctic freeze was on it was about –25C. Thank

goodness for central heating (although some days it didn’t cope). We had lots of snow, which is very pretty, especially when it is fresh and everything is sparkly and white. We also had some deer come through our yard. I have been on some trips on my long weekends. I went to New York with some friends for New Year’s Eve and saw the ball in Times Square. It was freezing cold and so crowded, but fun. I went to Philadelphia and Lancaster County in January and saw how the Amish people live. I wouldn’t be able to manage without electricity, especially in the cold weather, but they are very friendly and happy. I went for a buggy (horse-drawn carriage) ride and tried some of their home cooking. I also saw the Liberty Bell, Ben Franklin Parkway (which has flags from every country) and climbed the stairs Sylvester Stallone climbed in the Rocky movie. In February, I went out to Los Angeles to visit Josh and Nate. We went to a basketball game at the Staples Centre, which was amazing. The atmosphere was so electric. The Lakers beat Boston too, so that was exciting. I also helped Josh and Nate with preparations for Nate’s play, Holding the Man. At that stage, they were fundraising so I helped deliver flyers and put up signs. In March, I spent the weekend with Ian and Lisa Webb (Ian is Mrs Betty Webb’s son) in Connecticut, and for Easter I am going back to Cincinnati to visit my godmother and her family. Next month, mum is coming out here to visit me – I can’t wait. We are going to see Nate in his play, go to Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon and Houston, as well as spend some time here with my host family. They are all well and send their best wishes to everyone in Childers. They are learning to appreciate “Australian food” – they love Tim Tams and I made them a meat pie and pavlova for Australia Day. Over here they only have sweet pies, not savoury. I hope you all have a lovely time with family and friends over the Easter break, and that preparations are going well for the show. Good luck to the show girl entrants. NICOLE HARNEY
